Frequently asked questions.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: What industries does Engineered Finishing Inc. (EFI) serve?
A: EFI provides precision mechanical finishing solutions for a wide range of industries, including automotive, aerospace, military and defense, medical devices, additive manufacturing, power sports, computing, and industrial manufacturing.
Q: What is your typical lead time and can this change?
Our typical lead time is 3–5 business days. This can vary based on the specific parts and our current schedule, but we'll always keep you informed of any changes. For rush orders or specific deadlines, please let us know, and we'll do our best to accommodate your request.
Q: What types of mechanical finishing services do you offer in-house?
A: Our core in-house services include Abrasive Flow Machining (AFM), vibratory tumbling - deburring and polishing, wheel blasting, air blasting, precision hand deburring, and sand blasting. We specialize in improving surface finishes, removing burrs, and enhancing component performance with consistent and repeatable results.
Q: Do you provide CNC machining, plating, heat treating, painting or any other services?
A: EFI does not perform CNC machining, plating, or heat treating in-house. However, through our trusted outsource partners, we can coordinate these value-added services to deliver a complete finishing solution for your project.
Q: What is Abrasive Flow Machining (AFM), and when is it used?
A: AFM is a precision finishing process that uses a pressurized abrasive media to smooth, polish, and radius internal surfaces, edges, and complex geometries that are otherwise unreachable. It is widely used in aerospace, automotive, and medical applications to improve flow efficiency and performance.
Q: Can EFI handle high-volume production finishing?
A: Yes. We support both high-volume production finishing and small-batch prototype work. Our automated and manual finishing processes allow us to scale production to meet customer demand while maintaining ISO 9001:2015 quality standards.
Q: Do you work with additive manufactured (3D printed) parts?
A: Absolutely. We have extensive experience finishing metal additive manufacturing components. Our processes remove build lines, improve fatigue life, and create smooth, functional surfaces that meet demanding aerospace, medical, and industrial requirements. We have the capabilities to polish certain metals, just ask us about our Keramo Vibratory Finishing process.
Q: Do you have any hand-deburring operations?
A: Yes. Our precision hand deburring department is focused solely on hand-deburring and sanding. They pride themselves on quality and consistency.
Q: What certifications does EFI hold?
A: EFI is ISO 9001:2015 certified, ensuring that our processes meet rigorous quality management standards and provide reliable, repeatable results.
Q: Can EFI provide other finishing solutions than mechanical?
A: Yes. While our specialty is mechanical finishing, we coordinate with valued outsource partners for services such as coating, anodizing, plating, machining, and heat treating. This allows us to deliver turnkey finishing solutions without customers needing to manage multiple vendors.
Q: Where is EFI located, and do you serve customers nationwide?
A: Engineered Finishing Inc. is based in the Blaine, MN and proudly serves customers across the United States.
